Upgrade to asterisk 13 (bad or good)

Postby mathabathe » Wed Mar 11, 2015 9:07 am

good day,

I am running three asterisk servers and two of them are in 1.4 and the last one is version 1.2 .
I would like to upgrade to the latest version , asterisk 13.
Nothing is broken but I know that new versions are out there already.

my questions is ?
1 what is the risk of not upgrading to the latest version and what are the advantages of upgrading.
2. is it possible to upgrade from 1.4 to version 13.

1a) In a closed network, very little. In an open network, security fixes are no longer made against 1.4. See - https://wiki.asterisk.org/wiki/display/ ... k+Versions

1b) New features, if you need them. If not, then there's no particular advantage; the performance of 13 won't be dramatically better than the performance of 1.4, for that matter.

2) A lot's changed. You'll want to read the extensive upgrade notes going from major version to major version. At the very least, you'll have to be aware that pipes were replaced by commas in the dial plan.
