Please help me find an APC UPS Battery Backup solution.

Postby jmituzas » Wed Feb 17, 2010 10:07 pm

Need an ups for my asterisknow box.

Don't have a whole lot to spend, just need a 10 min charge for a 500 watt AsteriskNow box.

Need the software to run on linux or be compatible with a third party app that I can run on AsteriskNow.

If there is a third party app that will work, specify. Need it to shutdown my box.

We have been having rough weather here in the N.E. and am getting tired of file system corruption upon outages.

Please help me get an UPS running.

Many thanks in advance,

Joe

Thanks! , could you tell me if it requires any third party apps (and what they might be) to get it to work with asterisknow?

30 minutes is well enough time.

Much thanks for your reply.

Wow, that is a whole lot of Wattage to drain! My server that hosts my Asterisk PBX system uses no more than 12Watts of power. I use an APC Back-UPS XS 1000 for my network devices (comprised of a cable modem + routers + server to host my Asterisk PBX system + ATA devices) and it lasts more than 1+ hrs (never have an outtage longer than that).

If you're using a 500w power supply on your system, that doesn't mean you're actually drawing 500w -- far from it. You're probably drawing a LOT less. If you're really curious, get something like a Kill-A-Watt meter (see: http://www.p3international.com/products/special/P4400/P4400-CE.html) -- Newegg has them for $20 -- which will give you a better idea of what you're drawing.

If your system really is taking 500w... well, that's quite a system!

no don't be wish i could get some more insight, actually on a third-party app that will work with APC backups so It will shut my system down. Usally the software supplied by these UPS come with software that only runs on windows, question is how do I get the same functionality on my linux box?

Thanx for the input a meter seems like a good approach, so you are telling me that if I get a 500 watt UPS it will prolly be enough to supply power to all 3 of my boxes? Good to know that I wont need a separate one for each system.
