Asterisk - Would it be worth it for me?

Postby mattclements » Tue Apr 06, 2010 12:52 pm

Hello all,
I am managing the IT for a small company.

They Had:
Windows XP (Used as a Server) - With VOISpeed Server - 2 x DigiFire Micro V ISDN Cards
4 XP Workstations (1 Not used) - Each with a USB Phone & VOISpeed Client Software

We now have:
Windows 2003 Server Domain Controller
3 XP Workstations
The old XP Server for the Telephones as before as during the migration we found the card uncompatible with Windows Server 2003.

After the conversations with VOISpeed today - we had to pay £60 for them to "re-active" Licence Codes that had tried to be migrated and then migrated back - I feel this was a big rip off as we we're in the situation where we had to pay to get it all back up and running again.

This phone system causes Echo & isn't brilliant by any means - also we have a very powerful workstation now used just for this piece of software.

Im hoping to have eventually:
1 Win 2k3 Domain Server
4 XP Workstations
1 Linux Asterisk Telephone (ISDN) Server

Im looking at finding out:
Whether the DataFire Micro V Cards are worth using on the new server?
Will the VOISpeed Client Software connect to the Asterisk PBX backend, or is their another client available that will link to the phones, or a decent price LAN Phone?

Any other suggestions or ideas or offers for help???

Just looking at every possibility and Asterisk seems to be a very viable solution!

Regards,
Matt
