Softphone vs. IP Phone

Hey All,

I'm running asterisk now in my small business. I've been using linksys SPA941 phones for years with no real problems.

Recently I have been trying to move over to softphones. I bought a headset and installed twinkle on my linux-based PC and registered it as an extension on my asterisknow box.

About 1/2 the time the sound quality on the softphone is unusable. At the same time, the IP phones aren't having any issues. So it's gotta be my PC somehow. Don't believe it's the headset, I don't suspect it's twinkle.

Any comments on how to increase call quality on a softphone? Is it the soundcard that is causing the problem?

Could be the sound card, could be the PC getting bogged down with other tasks that make it a poor choice vs. a hardphone, for real-time telephony, could be the softclient itself.

I don't always use soft clients, but when I do, it's Blink, or Jitsi.
