learning to read message

Postby kamiquiroz » Mon Jun 24, 2013 2:18 pm

Hi

I have followed the Asterisk Quick Start Guide but I have a warning making calls from zoiper like the guide says, because after register the Sip client I try to call to extension 2600 configured as follow

extensions.conf
[default]
exten => _.,1,Hangup()
[demo]
exten => 2600,1,Dial(IAX2/guest@pbx.digium.com/s@default)
same => n,Hangup()

Iax.conf
[demo]
type=peer
username=asterisk
secret=supersecret
host=216.207.245.8

The CLI shows this result
WARNING[2781]: chan_iax2.c:3552 __attempt_transmit: Max retries exceeded to host 216.207.245.8 on IAX2/demo-5604 (type = 6, subclass = 1, ts=7, seqno=0)

I don't now exactly what means this message.

dhcppc0*CLI> iax2 show channels
Channel Peer Username ID (Lo/Rem) Seq (Tx/Rx) Lag Jitter JitBuf Format FirstMsg LastMsg
IAX2/demo-2490 216.207.245.8 guest 02490/00000 00001/00000 00000ms -0001ms 0000ms Unknow Tx:NEW Tx:NEW
1 active IAX channel

thx

It means that either messages from Asterisk are not reaching the IAX handler on 216.207.245.8, or the replies to those messages are not reaching Asterisk.

Note this is neither general discussion, nor specific t AsteriskNOW.

Not running IAX on the remote system, or a firewall/NAT problem.

I don't know exactly whats mean that running in remote system, because I making calls in the same PC, and NAT is true in sip.conf, also when I reload IAX in the CLI I got this message

dhcppc1*CLI> iax2 reload
[2013-06-27 18:20:40] WARNING[3353]: chan_iax2.c:3299 reload_firmware: Error opening firmware directory '/var/lib/asterisk/firmware/iax': No such file or directory
[2013-06-27 18:20:40] NOTICE[3353]: iax2-provision.c:558 iax_provision_reload: No IAX provisioning configuration found, IAX provisioning disabled.

thx

What does sip.conf have to do with IAX.

"Not running IAX" means that there is no IAX software running on the remote system, so it cannot respond to requests to start an IAX session.

nat= is often not needed even on NATed systems. NAT problems generally arise in the router, although, if you are inside NAT and connecting to outside, not telling Asterisk how to find your public address is likely to cause problems.

Basically Asterisk is sending a request but not getting a reply, so:

- it is being sent to the wrong place;
- it or the response is being blocked by a firewall;
- it or the response is being mishandled by a NAT router;
- it contains the wrong address for the Asterisk box (don't know if this applies to IAX), because Asterisk isn't correctly configured for NAT; or
- the destination doesn't have the destination port connected to software that understands the protocol used for the request.

Thx David, actually I can make calls between two SIP account, but I can't resolve the IAX problem, There are a way to install IAX in Asterisk, because I thought that Asterisk now already had all the features.

Asterisx is the reference implementation of IAX!

As already noted, you have a misconfigured destination, a routing or a firewall issue.

Actually firewall is not running, and the first warning was solved creating the folder in the corresponding path /var/lib/asterisk/ because asterisk folder haven't a folder called firmware. The Notice iax2-provision.c:558 iax_provision_reload: No IAX provisioning configuration found, IAX provisioning disabled not dissapear. Any idea.

Thx

Its not an error unless you intended to provision IAX phones.
