What you load is not the licence, it is electronic proof that you have been given a licence.
Whilst I haven't used AsteriskNOW, so I can't say for certain that there aren't some optional components that have their licence enforced by licence keys, Asterisk itself is under a licence that would make it illegal to require the use of such a key for the main part of the software, which is all that you would need (more accurately, it would mean that it would be legal to duplicate and redistribute the key, and it would be illegal to require a hardware specific key to be obtained before using a copy of the software).
The licence terms used for the main part of Asterisk forbid any restrictions on what the software is used for.
