Choosing AsteriskNOW

Postby kchen16 » Mon Jul 20, 2015 11:24 am

I am interested in setting up an on-site PBX with Asterisk. I'm new to Asterisk, and I'm still trying to figure out which version of Asterisk and associated GUI to use. Is AsteriskNOW the best choice? What are any limitations that AsteriskNOW has? Do you have to buy things to run a PBX successfully with AsteriskNOW?

Thanks for your help.

There is only one realistic choice of GUI, FreePBX. The questions are whether you want a GUI at all and how you want to install the software.

Yes, I do want a GUI. Is it possible to install FreePBX or AsteriskNOW on a server running linux?

AsteriskNOW must be installed on a bare machine, and will install a version of Linux.

Asterisk and FreePBX are best used on Linux, and certainly require a Unix-like system.

Thank you for your responses. I have a couple more questions.

Are there any limitations to using AsteriskNOW as opposed to FreePBX and Asterisk? Would I be able to have a fully functional PBX without paying for additional modules for AsteriskNOW?
