IAX, gateway

Postby pmlco » Sun Apr 12, 2009 6:10 am

Hello!

First, great news that this product has been released - thanks to all concerned.

My question: from reading the documentation, it seems that F for A works over SIP channels, but not IAX, is this correct? I ask because I want to implement the following scenario:

Fax machine->T.38 ATA-> * 1 ->IAX trunk-> * 2 -> TDM410P -> PSTN

I could use SIP between Asterisk 1 and 2, but since I'm using IAX for voice, it would be nice to be able to use it for faxes too.

Further, as you can see, what I need is essentially a T.38->PSTN gateway. I also note from the documentation that gateway functionality is not supported directly, but can be achieved by saving the incoming fax and resending it. I hope this will work - has anyone tried it?

Regards
Ian

Howdy,

IAX doesn't deal with T.38, only SIP, so you can't use Fax For Asterisk with T.38 and SIP. If you use it without T.38 - inband - then your results probably won't be very satisfactory.

That's what I suspected, but thanks for the confirmation.
