Incorrect fax resolution/orientation

Postby riovista » Mon Aug 02, 2010 12:58 pm

The resolution and orientation of inbound faxes are incorrect and I can't find anything in the documentation to help.

My setup is simple:

[rx-fax]
exten => s,1,NoOp(**** FAX RECEIVE ****)
exten => s,n,Set(FAXOPT(ecm)=yes)
exten => s,n,Set(FAXOPT(headerinfo)=My Company)
exten => s,n,Set(FAXOPT(localstationid)=${EXTEN})
exten => s,n,Set(FAXOPT(maxrate)=14400)
exten => s,n,Set(FAXOPT(minrate)=2400)
exten => s,n,ReceiveFAX(/tmp/${STRFTIME(${EPOCH},,%Y%m%d-%H%M%S)}-${CALLERID(number)}.tif)

The fax notice is:

NOTICE[11149]: res_fax.c:992 generic_fax_exec: Channel 'Zap/8-1' did not return a frame; probably hung up.
-- Channel 'Zap/8-1' FAX session '4' is complete, result: 'SUCCESS' (FAX_SUCCESS), error: 'NO_ERROR', pages: 1, resolution: '204x98', transfer rate: '14400', remoteSID: ''

The resolution should really be: 98x204 (or similar aspect ratio). The problem with the image is that it's horizontally squeezed (rather than rotated 90 degrees). Any advise on this issue would be greatly appreciated. You can download the fax at:

Howdy,

What are you using to view the received TIFF file?

I have used a couple of applications all on OSX they are Preview, Firefox, and Safari. Below you will find a screen shot of the image and image dimensions:

Here's the original image:

I believe the issue is not with fax component but with the tiff libraries which are inverseing and skewing the aspect ratios.

Howdy,

It's also possible that the viewer is incorrectly interpreting the TIFF.

Could you try converting it to a PDF (tiff2pdf) and viewing it in Acrobat?

Malcolm,

If I use tiff2pdf the image and proportions are displayed properly in all applications. What is your suggestion on my next move.

Howdy,

Sounds like your move is PDF, then, since the PDF renderer works and your TIFF viewer doesn't.

No?

Malcolm,

Thank you for your advise. I still believe threes an error in the tiff libraries but pdf works fine for me. I created an agi script which automatically converts to pdf and emails it :)
