Is there a future for this product

Postby orenyny » Thu Aug 06, 2009 3:34 pm

Hi,

I just got the information for the Beta, but before investing any resources in it, I would like to know what the future of this product. Why such a short term for the Beta program?

Is it going to be released as a new product in September? Any price indication?
Or is it going to be abandoned, for the sake of Skype for SIP?

Why use SFA when Skype for SIP is available?

Can someone explain why do you need bot products?

Thanks.

Skype for SIP is only useful for trunking calls to the PSTN. You can't do anything with Skype to Skype calls for instance. I believe SFS also will have a monthly fee in addition to per-minute charges. The two are completely different products and Digium wouldn't be releasing a product that they didn't intend to support. See http://blogs.digium.com/2009/03/26/the- ... our-death/ for more information on the differences.

I'm sure pricing will be announced soon.

This definately looks promosing for some of my clients, but until we get an indication of what the pricing model will be...

It's less than 3 weeks away and they don't have the pricing yet? Something doesn't sound right.

There is a difference between "not having pricing" and "not announcing pricing". :-) Please see http://www.digium.com/skype
