Who is skypeforasterisk talking to?

Postby ManChicken » Sat Sep 26, 2009 10:20 pm

I just got Skype for Asterisk setup (pretty nifty) but did a netstat -alpn and saw:

Code: Select all
tcp    192.168.2.2:44202    173.73.74.217:10272     ESTABLISHED 1910/skypeforasteri
tcp    192.168.2.2:47529    75.185.20.72:2009       ESTABLISHED 1910/skypeforasteri
tcp    192.168.2.2:51906    24.126.120.200:23162    ESTABLISHED 1910/skypeforasteri
tcp    192.168.2.2:45263    24.60.161.31:16394      ESTABLISHED 1910/skypeforasteri
tcp    192.168.2.2:51337    165.123.225.39:11203    ESTABLISHED 1910/skypeforasteri

Why is it connected to these IPs? They are random cable modem IPs which seems a bit fishy (and one at U-Penn). No one on my system is using Skype through Asterisk, no incoming calls are occurring, and I just set this all up so the Skype name isn't even known to anyone (besides being searchable in the directory). So what is the server doing connecting to these IPs?

Alright I understand now a bit more how the Skype network functions and that these 'random connections' are the server talking to Skype Supernodes to facilitate connections.

Does the skypeforasterisk server ever act as a supernode if the machine it's running on is connectable from the outside?
