Hi,

Did you review page 37 of the Skype For Asterisk manual?

Is that not working as documented?

that would work if there is a call in progress, what i am looking for is to recieve the chat while there are no calls.
in other words to have a chat listener for the skype chat log

You can build a listener to the AMI SkypeChatMessage event.

The manual describes the Event. The Asterisk book (www.asteriskdocs.org) should have an overview of the Asterisk Manager Interface.

I know this is a few month old thread, but I'm confused. I'm looking into using the asterisk platform, but I want to know its capabilities. What does Khaloudi mean by "receiving messages when no call is initiated?" Does this literally mean listening to someone and then replying via instant message? My apologies for the naivete. Thanks, folks! :D

Standard mode of operation for most of its history has been to switch calls around; not to act as a messaging platform.

It's not built as a chat server.

But, there's been work done to change that; see:

Hello,

You can use my application, it allows the asterisk to catch all incoming skype chat messages without calls from any user and forwards them by email with some additional autoresponder job :

While the skype chat implementation from digium has serious architect bug but it can be used in some cases.

Khaloudi i've used Sfinx application and i had no problem at all receiving skype calls. I had some problems with Asterisk before and i didn't resolved them. Just try it to see if it works for you too.

Wrong, chat is like SMS, you do not need to be online. After you became online you will receive the message.

Sfinx is correct...as long as you are logged into Skype, whether or not you are on a call, the chat is (should be) functional.
