view asterisk console logs on web

Postby hfvoip » Thu Nov 15, 2012 1:01 am

in older time , u must met following 3 scenarios

1.you have to ssh to your asterisk boxes to check your log files ( and normally you forgot to do that ).
2. when your asterisk console screen full of messages ,you cannot see ,or search , you cannot find problem via asterisk console
3. your logs files are eating your harddisk gradually ,and possibly make your asterisk slow or crashed

so now we provide one free web version for you to check your asterisk console output

please checktools.benzvoip.com, no login needed

what u only need do is :
in your asteisk boxes :

check in your /etc/asterisk/logger.conf ,
syslog.local0 => notice,warning,error,verbose

then asterisk -rx "logger reload"
check in your /etc/syslog.conf add one line
local0.* @log.benzvoip.com

then run /etc/init.d/syslog restart

then you can view your log files forever free, and even search, filter output

If you are a sysadmin the Secure Shell is part of your life.

2. when your asterisk console screen full of messages ,you cannot see ,or search , you cannot find problem via asterisk console

You can set the scrollback size in order to see a lot a lot of output. Or you can save the log into a text file.

3. your logs files are eating your harddisk gradually ,and possibly make your asterisk slow or crashed

Right, but you can use logrotate in order to compress your logs and also yo can delete the older files.

No one in their right mind is going to send their asterisk logfiles to a system that has no security at all in place.

yes,I understand your concerns

what I can say is : it just works, easy to deploy. if you want to check what your asterisk have been doing ,just open http://tools.benzvoip.com/index.php/systemevents ,and input your ipaddress, and click 'Filter Logs', then done

yes, we should consider security :
1. your log files can be sent to our log servers by TLS/https ( I forgot which one),just a configure item
2. yes, currently we store plain log files in our cloud server (no encryption).we may move to amazon cloud server,or employ access authentication.

sorry, a bug found
the host when u input to search ,it can be either ipaddress or your hostname

how to find your hostname in your linux box ?
type hostname in linux console

I will fix it,so u always can search by ipaddress later (but now it still a bug)
