AsteriskNow and FAX

Postby hyperbole » Tue Nov 10, 2009 1:30 pm

Hi,

I am trying to receive fax using our PBX and then send it as an email.

What happends is simply when I dial the line drops. When trying to send fax to it fax machine returns error "Line Busy"

I have freepbx 2.5.2.2 and asterisk 1.4.24.

I have Inbound rule for our FAX number which has the following :

Fax Extention : system
Fax Email : Use email address
Fax Detection Type : NVFax
Pause After Answer : 5

I tried searching for *fax* applications from asterisk command line and none are installed.
I am running 64bit version and noticed that none of the fax modules are in digium 64bit repository.
I found this :
http://sourceforge.net/projects/agx-ast-addons/

Downloaded and copied to /usr/lib/asterisk/modules but still no joy.

Any guidance would be highly appreciated. I am fairly new to Asterisk.

Many thanks in advance.

Wow it worked no more wondering why it didn't load the module. :) Thanks for the updated 64-bit.

Well now that I have it installed, how do I send a fax?
Would you know that I can not find anything anywhere telling me how to use this after its installed. Would figure that it would be in the admin manual, nope. That just tells you how to install it. And there dosn't appear to be a user guide for it as well?

Can anyone let me know how to use it after you get it installed? How can I send a fax with this thing?

Howdy,

Section 3.1.2, on page 19, of the Fax For Asterisk manual:

http://docs.digium.com/FAX/fax_for_aste ... manual.pdf

describes the operation of the SendFax Asterisk application.

Cheers.

need something more specific how to sendfax to a destination number?

syntax maybe?

Example of how I would send a fax for

test.tiff

to 8009999999 ? with a subject of "this is a test fax"

how would I send this? or is this even possible?

I am running Asterisknow 1.5 with upgraded asterisk 1.6 and FreePBX 2.7 with the Fax Configuration Module..
Also wrote to FreePBX Forums in hope of a solution.

I really want to beable to send and recieve faxes from my asterisk server.
Have been struggling for 3 months now with trying to get a dial tone for iaxmodem to work with hylafax, among other issues. Really hope to get this working.

Thankls for your quick response in trying to help me work through this.

All help is appreciated.

really don't understand this:

SendFAX Application
The SendFAX application is the default application for sending a fax file. The 1.4 version of
res_fax provides a rxtxappnames configuration option that is intended to ease conversion to
res_fax from spandsp-based applications. Anywhere this document refers to SendFAX
implies the optional use of TxFAX for the 1.4 version of res_fax if /etc/asterisk/res_fax.conf
includes rxtxappnames=yes. The following section describes the SendFAX interface.
SendFAX(<filename>[,ad])
<filename> : Full path to the .tiff image to transmit
'd' – Enables fax debug reporting. More granular event reporting will
be observed when 'verbose' logging is enabled in Asterisk. Manager
sessions will receive manager events for each granular fax session
event. This is an optional argument. (default: off)
'f' – Allow fax fallback to audio mode on T.38-capable channels
's' – Send progress Manager events (overrides statusevents setting in
res_fax.conf)
The following input channel variables are used by SendFAX for backwards compatibility with
previous spandsp-based Asterisk applications. New development and dialplan creators
should use the FAXOPT dialplan function. FAXOPT will override channel variables in the slim
case that both FAXOPT and a channel variable were used for the same call to SendFAX or
ReceiveFAX; e.g. FAXOPT(headerinfo) and LOCALHEADERINFO.

i mean when I try I receive this:

asterisk002*CLI> SendFAX (/testfax/test.tiff)
No such command 'SendFAX (/testfax/test.tiff)' (type 'help SendFAX (testfax/test.tiff)' for other possible commands)

so its obvious that I am a dummy and don't understand what is written in this manual.

ok so I just found out that the FreePBX module has no outbound capabilities.

Does the Digium Fax For Asterisk, if so how?

can i just use the example Dial plan specified within the http://docs.digium.com/FAX/fax_for_asterisk_admin_manual.pdf
page 37 & 38

if so still don't know how to send faxes, noticed within the example where the faxes would be for receiving them, is there a was to send faxes too?

Would love to send them trough our Digium AEX800 4fxo 4fxs ports card if possible.

Please help me out.
Thanks

OK well I may be able to get this to work if I knew where the asterisk-sendfax location was?

Read somewhere that it was located with the /usr/local/bin directory -- well on asterisknow 1.5 with updated asterisk to 1.6 it is not there?

Any where else where it may be?

Have also tried a #locate asterisk-sendfax and a locate sendfax both bring back nothing.. Searching system now for the file nothing so far been searching for 15 minutes.

I know that I have it:

asteriskCLI> core show applications > SendFAX: Sends a specified TIFF/F file as a FAX.

Where are these applications stored?
